WEEKLY FOCUS - Hats off to teachers
From the Principal - Celebrating World Teachers Day
Dear Families
Yet again our Caulfield Committee have pulled together a spectacular Caulfield Event, providing a magical day for all who attended. I am so grateful for the amazing people who generously volunteer so much of their time and effort to make this happen every year and to all the last-minute volunteers who helped. A special thank you must go to Prue McConnell and Kylie King who have served as part of the committee for many years. This was their final year on with the team, and we are very grateful for the huge amount of time and energy they have given to Star of the Sea during this time.
A huge thank you must also go to our generous sponsors who play a huge role in making this such a successful community event. Their support of our school is so greatly valued and appreciated.
Finally, we are very thankful for all of you who supported our 50/50 Raffle. I know many of you worked very hard to sell these tickets and help make it such a great success. We raised a massive $13880 for our school. A special congratulations to Chris Hodgson who was this year’s 50/50 winner.
"Educators are the only people who lose sleep over other people's kids."
–Nicholas A. Ferroni
We celebrate World Teacher’s Day this Friday 27 October. The theme for this year is Hats off for teachers. This day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our teachers for their skilled work in educating, inspiring and supporting our students.
Celebrated in more than 100 countries world-wide, World Teachers’ Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994 to recognise the role of teachers in society.
I am grateful for the amazing teachers that we are graced with at Star of the Sea! Please take some time this week to thank our teachers for the love and dedication they show our children every day.
Please also consider joining us in the staffroom this Tuesday 24th October at 5:30pm to find out a bit more about our School Board. It is an obligation free session that offers you the chance to find out what we do. Feel free to come at 5:15am for some wine and cheese if you are able.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
God bless you.

From Our APRE
Some of you may already be aware that I am a big fan of The Resilience Project and have been listening to the podcast ‘The Imperfects’ for quite some time now.
One thing that constantly strikes me is the importance of GRATITUDE. Many of the guests on the podcast have overcome great challenges in life and gratitude has helped them with this.
I am grateful that I also have a faith that can help me through tough times.
“God will provide you with all these other things. So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.” Matthew 6:34
Our worries can often outweigh our gratitude and practicing gratitude is a habit that needs hard work. Human nature, unfortunately, has us go straight to the negative or the ‘what if’.
Try to take some time this week to be grateful. The poster below may help you get started.
On the weekend I attended our annual caulfield event – what an amazing day it was. The amount of work that goes into such an event is hard to fathom – I am extremely grateful to everyone involved in organising our caulfield event.
I got to share the day with family and friends and had loads of fun. Thank you to the volunteers, sponsors and all those who came along to support the day. We even got to share the celebration with a beautiful bride and groom who popped in. Thank you everyone.
Be grateful,
Kellie Richardson

World Teachers' Day 2023
Our team of amazing teachers at Star of the Sea continue to go above and beyond and do it all for the sake of the beautiful students we have in our care. Thank you for all you do.
Most gracious God, thank You always for blessing us
with the most capable educators who lead us to You with every lesson they teach.
Our teachers deserve all the good in the world.
I know that with You, they are always blessed with the grace only You can give.
May our teachers continue to be showered with Your blessings of grace and mercies,
so that they may be inspired to continue being a blessing to others.
Glory to God in the highest, Amen.

In Our Prayers
Let us pray...
• We pray for our Year 12 students as they finish their final week of high school: May they experience pride in their achievements and be kept safe in their celebrations.
• We pray for those children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time: May they come to know the peace that is found in God’s mercy and love.
• We pray for peace in our world: In particular, we pray that leaders will lead with wisdom and love in a world facing conflict and distrust.
• We pray for all in our world and in our community who suffer in any way because of illness, disaster, war or injustice: May they always know they are not alone.
• We pray for all those who have died: May God grant them the peace and joy and hope of the resurrection.

Woolworths Cricket Blast - Regional Final
Howzat!!!! Yesterday nine Star of the Sea girls travelled to the Rockhampton Cricket Grounds to compete in the Woolworths Cricket Blast Regional Final.
In hot conditions the girls bowled some scorchers, caught some classic catches and hit cover after cover shot over the boundary. It was great to see all the skills they have been learning in PE put into action. In particular, I would like to congratulate all the girls on their great sportsmanship. It was not only a fabulous day of cricket, but one of friendship and fun.
A big thankyou to our “Barmy Star of the Sea Army” of Shay Thetford, Matt Lamberton and Rowan Dykstra for transporting the girls to Rockhampton and being our cheerleaders.
A fabulous day was had by all!!!

Departing Families
At this stage of the year, work and personal circumstances sometimes mean that we have families moving from Star of the Sea. If you have not already done so, please send us an email or a note to let us know.
This allows us to make accurate preparations for 2024. It also allows other families on our wait lists for certain year levels to be considered for a place with us next year.
We hope that you can join us for our End of Year Mass so that we can pray a special blessing for you and your family.

Additionally, ice blocks are limited to one per child each day.
Please Update Your Media Details
Dear Parents
We are asking your assistance in updating media consent for your child/ren. Our system has been updated with more options that give us clarity with the myriad different ways your child's details can possibly be used.
If you completed a paper copy of the enrolment form, you will definitely need to update these media consent details please. Parents who completed an online application are also asked to check their child's current media permissions to ensure it is correct.
This is a very quick task completed through Parent Lounge and below are some instructions to guide you with this task. You will need to complete this task for each child you have at Star of the Sea please.
We appreciate your help in ensuring we have the correct information for your child/ren.
