WEEKLY FOCUS - Tips for Term Four
From the Principal - A bread making lesson
Dear Families
Welcome to Term 4 everyone.
This term is one of my favourites – full of so many memorable moments.
It is jam packed though so make sure you check your Term Planner which will help you keep up.
Our new School Playground is nearing its final stages so our children should be playing on it within the next couple of weeks - very exciting!
“You didn’t come this far to only come this far. Dig deep, finish strong and make yourself proud.”
— Gary Ryan Blair
During the holiday period I set myself the challenge of learning how to make sour dough bread. As with any learning journey, I have discovered that the more I learn, the more I realise I don’t know. I am proud of the first few loaves I have made. They are nowhere near what I was hoping for but a good learner keeps researching and aiming for improvement. One of my biggest learnings has been about the individual nature of flour! I never realised the diversity there is in flour – even the same brand and type of flour can vary greatly from batch to batch.
It was a great reflection to be pondering as I prepared for Term Four. Each of our students is their own precious person who has worked hard this year along their individual learning journey.
Term Four is the culmination of this year’s journey and they need home and school to encourage them to finish well, even when they are tired and busy with end of term events. Help them to keep their eye on finishing proud, giving their very best right until the end.
Remind them also not to compare themselves with everyone else. Help them to reflect on their own individual achievements and notice the growth they have made – academically, personally and socially throughout the year.
Our expectations for behaviour, work habits, homework, attendance and uniform help the students maintain habits that will carry them to a strong finish at the end of this term and teach them habits of endurance for life.
Encouraging regular school attendance also helps our children to settle into good learning, personal and social habits. I know they get tired but we encourage you to have them attend school as regularly as possible. Many studies have shown the negative effect that regular absenteeism can have on children’s learning. Please let us know if you are having trouble getting your child to school and we will do all we can to help you.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
God bless you.

2023 School Goals
From Our APRE
Welcome back to our final term for 2023. Once again time is flying by and we are now preparing for our end of year events. Year Six have started a count down to the end of their primary school journey – only 42 days now.
Term Four is always a crazy, busy term – but so much fun.
Our aim for Term Four is to remember to be grateful and have an attitude of gratitude, while practising the virtue of Determination.
Traditionally October is the month of The Rosary. The Rosary is a prayer to remind us that Jesus loved us so much that he died on the cross for us.
The rosary tells the story of Jesus’ life in four parts:
- The Joyful Mysteries
- The Sorrowful Mysteries
- The Glorious Mysteries
- The Luminous Mysteries
Catholics have been given a very special gift in the rosary. Each time we pray the rosary we should focus on Jesus’ life as well as a special person or intention that we want to pray for.
My daughter recently travelled overseas and one of the treasured gifts she purchased for me was a set of Rosary beads while she was in Rome.
God bless,

In Our Prayers
Let us pray...
- We pray for our students as they begin this final term for 2023: May they be supported to develop habits that will help them finish the year successfully.
- We pray for those children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time: May they come to know the peace that is found in God’s mercy and love.
- We pray for peace in our world: In particular, we pray that leaders will lead with wisdom and love in a world facing conflict and distrust.
- We pray for all in our world and in our community who suffer in any way because of illness, disaster, war or injustice: May they always know they are not alone.
- We pray for those members of our school community who are battling sickness and suffering in their life: May they be consoled and strengthened in their time of need.
- We pray for all those who have died: May God grant them the peace and joy and hope of the resurrection.

Please Update Your Media Details
Dear Parents
We are asking your assistance in updating media consent for your child/ren.
Our system has been updated with more options that give us clarity with the myriad different ways your child's details can possibly be used. If you completed a paper copy of the enrolment form, you will definitely need to update these media consent details please. Parents who completed an online application are also asked to check their child's current media permissions to ensure it is correct.
This is a very quick task completed through Parent Lounge and below are some instructions to guide you with this task. You will need to complete this task for each child you have at Star of the Sea please.
We appreciate your help in ensuring we have the correct information for your child/ren.
