Weekly Focus - Celebrating School Officer's Day this Wednesday
From the Principal - Parents caring for parents
Dear Families
We have so much to celebrate from the findings of last week’s School Review. In particular, the team found that we have a really special community here at Star of the Sea with so many of us invested in the incredible story we belong to. It is a privilege to be the custodians of this story and we need to be really intentional in how we care for it.
Working together as a parent community is incredibly important and the stress of daily life can occasionally make us forget that. Sometimes we end up isolated, setting ourselves up against each other instead of recognizing the shared journey we are on together.
It is only natural that tensions arise at times. Please remember that we are here to help however we can. Particularly if it is an issue occurring at school, working through the problem needs to be handled with the support of the school in line with our Communication Policy and Parent Code of Conduct, revised each year at our P & F AGM. It is up to us to set an example of how to sort out disputes with kindness, openness and respect.
I truly believe that parents need parents. Parenthood is not easy and talking to other parents can help you realise you are not alone and can give some great tips to use.
A perfect opportunity to connect with each other is through the Morning Teas that take place after Class Assemblies. Parents are invited to bring a plate (if you can) and get together for a chat and a cuppa. It is particularly for the parents of the performing Class but open to all.
I challenge you over the next couple of weeks to look for someone you haven’t spoken to before. Maybe they need a friendly word from you.
Another really important group within our school community is our Support Staff. These special people take on so many essential roles within the school – working in the Office, our classrooms, the Tuckshop, the Library, in IT Services and in keeping our Grounds neat and tidy.
They are the backstage crew to ensuring your children have the support and the services they need to feel happy and ready to learn. We have a special day of Gratitude for all our Support Staff this Wednesday 14 June. Don’t forget to say a special thank you if you see them around this week.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
God bless you.

“Take it, this is my body”
On Sunday we celebrated the Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This is a time for us to stop and reflect on the signifcance of the Eucharist.
Reflection by Artist – Jenny Close
Jesus said that his own body and blood were ‘real’ food which was not merely nourishing, but life-giving. It is easy to agree with ‘the people’ in this reading – the metaphor is raw and abrasive. It was dangerous language, but it engaged their attention.
The central symbols of bread and wine at our Sunday Eucharist are dangerous in what they evoke. It reminds us that the Eucharistic elements we use at Sunday Mass need to be authentic in order to more richly convey the power they evoke.
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh. I will give my flesh so that the people in the world may have life.” John 6:51

Catholic Identity
Sacrament of Confirmation
Students from our school have been preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation of the Catholic Church along with Baptism and Holy Communion.
Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Christian’s relationship with God is made stronger. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are strengthened: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. In this way the Christian is equipped to become a better witness to Christ in the world.

Congratulations to Mara, Lachlan, Sophie and Sienna who joined with a number of other children on the weekend for Confirmation. We were blessed to have Bishop Michael join us for this special occasion.
Bon and Chanel have been preparing with us also and will be Confirmed later this year.
Congratulations

In Our Prayers
Let us pray...
• We pray in thanksgiving for the gift that our Support Staff are to our school: May we never take for granted their service and care.
• We pray for the parents and care givers of our school: May they seek always to support and learn from each other in the important roles they have in nurturing and guiding our children.
• We pray for all those who have died: May God grant them the peace and joy and hope of the resurrection.
• We pray for those members of our school community who are battling sickness and suffering in their life: May they find healing and comfort.

Men’s Health Week 2023
The theme of Men's Health Week 2023 is Healthy Habits - focusing on encouraging men and boys to build healthy habits by identifying small changes they can make that benefit our health and wellbeing.
In Australia, Men’s Health Week provides a platform for challenging and debating key issues in men’s health and to raise the profile of men, our health outcomes and health needs around the country each June. Men’s Health Week approach celebrates the strengths of men, the contributions we make, and the important roles they play in society.
The Australian Men’s Health Forum has several resources to help us increase our Healthy Habits.

Have a good week everyone.

Visit from the Director
Star of the Sea enjoyed welcoming our Diocesan Director, Miss Leesa Jeffcoat, back to visit our school on Friday. Miss Jeffcoat enjoyed our Year 6B Assembly performance and then visited our Year 3B and 1A classes to find out what they have been learning. She concluded her visit with a sneak preview of some of the work our Robotics Club are doing in preparation for their upcoming Robotics Competition.
