Weekly Focus - Some P&F news for you
From the Principal - Caulfield news
Dear Families
Our School Disco on Friday night was a wonderful night out for our whole school community. As well as it being a whole lot of fun for our children, it is such an important chance for parents to get together and provide support and encouragement to each other. It is easy to be very hard on ourselves as parents and we need each other to remember others also struggle, to share wisdom and to realise we are actually doing okay.
Thank you so much to our Parents & Friends group for organizing this great event for us. Special thanks to Benji who shared his time and talent to keep us dancing all night, and to Dan and Rachael and their hard-working team who kept us fed and watered.
A reminder that you are all automatically members of the Parents & Friends through your child’s enrolment. You are always most welcome to attend our monthly meetings or send through suggestions. Our next meeting is Tuesday 16 May where we will be seeking nominations for a new P&F President.
“There is immense power when a group of people with similar interests gets together to work toward the same goals.”
– Idowu Koyenikan
An important part of the work of our Parents & Friends is our Caulfield Committee which is a sub-committee, operating on behalf of the P&F.
This group of men and women work hard to prepare an amazing community event each October that has contributed to the enhancement of the school in many ways over the years. This year’s new playground is being built entirely with funds raised by our Caulfield Committee through sponsorship and the running of an amazing day.
The team are ready to begin their work for this year’s Caulfield event and would love to have a few more people join their planning committee.
The team generally try and meet once a month at this stage, then more regularly getting closer to the event. At the end they start to meet weekly, and the week leading up to the event is nearly every night. It is not always necessary to attend every meeting. There is a group chat where they update each other on progress, ask questions of each other and share ideas.
The committee are a mixture of a whole heap of people just trying to help how they can. They are very laid back, their meetings are pretty casual and run to suit the needs of the ladies (and sometimes gents) who catch up for a coffee and chat and organise an amazing event while they are at it.
Please let me know if you are able to help us as part of this awesome group. Prue McConnell is also happy for you to contact her with offers and questions if you would prefer.
We will also be looking for help in lots of other ways as we get closer to the event:
- Donations of items for gift bags and prizes
- Sponsorship
- Helping to set up and pack up
- Helping with jobs during the event
- Selling tickets in our 50/50 when they are released
Your assistance in any of these ways will be greatly appreciated.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
God bless you.

2023 School Goals
From Our APRE
On Friday Year 2B presented a Positive Primer Assembly. These assemblies help spread positivity throughout our school. Some recent training our staff took part in highlighted the impact a positive primer can have on people. Each class this year will present a Positive Primer to our school to showcase ways they are promoting positivity within their class.
Year 2B shared a song that gets them in the mood for learning each morning.
“In our morning circle we gauge where we are on our Ready to Learn Scale. One of the activities that helps us get ready to learn is our Good Morning song.”
It sure was a great way to get us all in the mood for learning on Friday.
This is a sample ready to learn scale, giving teachers a quick way of checking in to see how students are feeling. This also gives teachers an opportunity to talk about ways they can help students move up the scale if they are not ready to learn.
God’s blessings,
Kellie Richardson

Catholic Identity
On Sunday I joined with some of our students for the first formation session for those preparing to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. We keep the following students in our prayers as they continue to prepare.
Bon Andrews, Lachlan Gair, Sienna Lenz, Sophie Griffiths, Mara Bryant and Chanel Johnson.
The Catholic Church has seven Sacraments which include – Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion, Reconciliation, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick and Marriage.
Sacraments are God’s way of touching our lives. They have a visible and invisible part to them. We see the symbols and the action but there is the unseen entry of God’s grace to our lives. It is like when we give a hug to our children. They see the hug but receive and feel the love it brings. The Sacraments nourish, strengthen and express our faith.

• We pray for all of us during this Easter season: May we proclaim the message of our risen Christ with hope and joy and conviction.
• We pray for all who live with war and suffering: May the leaders of our world govern with wisdom and concern for all.
• We pray for all those who have died: May God grant them the peace and joy and hope of the resurrection.
• We pray for those members of our school community who are battling sickness and suffering in their life: May they find healing and comfort.
From the APC
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are.
The theme for 2023 is the Bookaneer Book Fair.
It’s a fun reading event that brings the books kids want to read into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
During school time children will visit the library and look through the array of books on display for purchase. They will write out a wish list and take their forms home to discuss with parents if buying them is an option. All books will be purchased online, no cash required.
If you would like to attend the fair with your children, the library will be open during the week.
Book Fair dates: 22nd May – 26th May
Morning hours: Tuesday – Friday 8:15am – 8:35am
Afternoon hours: Tuesday – Thursday 2:55pm - 3:20pm
We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair and thank you in advance for supporting this fair.
Please note – this is not the annual dress up event. That will take place in Book Week during term 3.
Have a great week!

Our Mother's Day Stall is kindly organised by our Parents and Friends Committee and gives every student the chance to go shopping at school this week to buy a Mother's Day present for someone special.
Each child will need their money in a purse or sealable bag /envelope marked with their name. Prices range from $2 to $8. Raffle tickets are 50cents each with a $5 limit per student. All students receive a free raffle ticket with their purchase.
Please send a bag for them to put their purchases into afterwards.
We are also in need of parent helpers who can donate all or some of their day (anytime between 9am and 2.30pm) to help the children with their shopping. Please contact the school office if you are able to assist.

Athletics Carnival
- 02 Jun 2023
Our 2023 Sports Carnival takes place on Friday 02 June and children must travel by bus to Chanel College unless they are competing in the 800m races (and have nominated via the link). Students are not allowed to be dropped at Chanel to wait with older siblings or to meet their class.
The buses will depart Star of the Sea at 8.35am sharp, so it is vital that children arrive in time for school. Please note that our PREP CLASSES DO NOT ATTEND THIS ATHLETICS CARNIVAL. A reminder to our Prep families there will NO TUCKSHOP on Friday 2nd June.
At the completion of the carnival, students not travelling home with their parents in the afternoon will return to Star of the Sea by bus. Please ensure you notify your child’s class teacher at the end of the Carnival if you are taking your child home. Children are not permitted to wait behind at Chanel College for older siblings.
Students are asked to bring the following items:
PLEASE ENSURE ALL ITEMS ARE MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME. |
Parents visiting on the day are asked to sit in the spectator area and refrain from sitting around the student tents please as this makes it difficult for teachers to arrange events.
Children will stay in their tents under the direction of the supervising teacher. They will not be permitted to sit away or visit with parents (not even when they are finished their events).
Parents may use the Chanel Tuckshop but are asked to avoid using it during lunch breaks (10.40 to 11.20am and 1.05 to 1.25pm).
Please note that parking in the Chanel College grounds is not permitted at any time as current construction projects have reduced parking capacity.
We will need the assistance of volunteers to help us on the day. Please complete this form if you can help: https://forms.gle/ifQ1wTkm8KqaW4XN7
We can’t wait to see you all there for a wonderful day! Make sure you bring your loudest cheering voice!
