Weekly Focus - The Science of Gratitude

From the Principal - My favourite virtue

Dear Families

Wow!  What a fantastic day Saturday was!  I have heard many people talking about how brilliant our Caulfield Event was on the weekend.  It is amazing the way our school is transformed into such a beautiful venue, full of great entertainment, amazing food and professional service.  A huge thank you to everyone who helped in any way – especially our amazing Caulfield Team.  So much of what we have at Star of the Sea has been achieved through the blood, sweat and tears of our parent volunteers ...and it is our children who reap the benefits.  Thank you everyone.

“So often we dwell on the things that seem impossible rather than on the things that are possible. So often we are depressed by what remains to be done and forget to be thankful for all that has been done.”
- Marian Wright Edelman

Thankfulness is one of my favourite virtues.

“It is an attitude of gratitude for learning, loving and being.  It is being glad for the special things which come along and the little things that happen around you and within you every day.  It is an openness to receive each of God’s blessings.

To be thankful is to have a sense of wonder about the beauty of this world and to welcome all of life as a gift.  Thankfulness is the path to contentment.

Thankfulness is a way to get perspective when things don’t look good and you start to lose hope. It is a way to grow when painful things happen, by looking at the gifts which are always there, even when they seem hidden.”
The Family Virtues Guide – Linda Kavelin Popov

God bless you and Live Jesus in Your Hearts Forever!

From Our APRE - Socktober

Don't forget our Socktober Crazy Sock Day Fundraiser this Friday.

One of our school virtues is that of Service and it reminds us of how important it is to reach out to help others beyond ourselves, not expecting anything in return.

Virtues are gifts from God that lead us to live in a close relationship with him. Virtues are like habits. They need to be practiced; they can be lost if they are neglected.

You can learn more about the work of Catholic Mission and their Socktober Appeal at their website: https://www.socktober.org.au/

Have a wonderful week.

In Our Prayers

Let us pray...

•    We pray for those children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time:  May they come to know the peace that is found in God’s mercy and love.

•    We pray for peace in our world:  In particular, we pray that leaders will lead with wisdom and love in a world facing conflict and distrust.

•    We pray for all in our world and in our community who suffer in any way because of illness, disaster, war or injustice:  May they always know they are not alone.

From the APC

The annual Star of the Sea Caulfield fundraiser was another huge success on the weekend.  It is a highlight for me each year to see the work of the committee come together in such a spectacular way.  From Thursday evening to Saturday morning, several people work together to transform the school’s undercover area into an elaborate function room which caters for 250 guests.  Then on Sunday, all the work is reversed to transform the area back to how it was.

Thank you to everyone who was able to help make this year such a success.  Our committee, their partners for looking after their children when they meet, the parents who helped set up and pack up, the generous sponsors, the guests and the past Star of the Sea students who washed up.   Far too many people to list but please know everyone’s contribution plays an important part.   The giving of your time is appreciated.

This event comes and goes quickly but the lasting memories of the good times it creates and the money it raises lasts a long time.  I look forward to next year’s already.  I also look forward to seeing the playground we have in the final planning stages come to life.

Have a good week everyone.
