Weekly Focus - How to change the world
From the Principal - Look for the starfish.
Dear Families
There is a lot going on in our world right now which can add a burden to our hearts as we ponder how to solve it. I share this week one of my favourite stories that teaches us how to cope when the problem seems too overwhelming.
“…being happy with (God) now means:
loving as he loves,
helping as he helps,
giving as he gives,
serving as he serves,
rescuing as he rescues,
being with him for all the twenty-four hours,
touching him in his distressing disguise."
- Mother Teresa
One day, while walking along the beach, an old man noticed a small boy approaching. As the boy walked, he paused every so often and bent down, picking up an object and throwing it into the sea. The man called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves. They will die unless I throw them back into the water.”
The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”
The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled, and said, “It made a difference to that one!”
It is true that we live in a world full of suffering and challenges. Instead of losing hope it is our time to provide a witness and show that our faith is something worthwhile. We can’t do everything, but we can do something.
This is our time to look for the starfish that need our help. You may be the only way that Christ can touch someone's life and you may never know the future impact of your kindness. The ordinary, small moments in your relationships with others often accomplish the most, even the messy moments.
- Be confident - Don’t be scared to share your faith and have your say in a respectful way.
- Set about being the best version of you that you can be – Preach most often with actions.
- Reach out in compassion to those who are suffering.
- Fill your life with joy, gratitude, love and mercy.
I pray that in the ordinary, messy moments of your life you may truly be able to pray in the words of Cardinal Newman - Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Your presence in my soul.
God bless you and Live Jesus in Your Hearts Forever!

Caulfield Help
Our Caulfield event takes place this Saturday 15 October.
We are extremely grateful to anyone who is able to help us in any way to make this event a success and ease the burden by adding extra hands. You will see the school slowly transform over Thursday and Friday. It is not too late to offer to help on Friday or Saturday - please email the office or Jennett if you are free.
You are also most welcome to just turn up for clean up on Saturday at 6pm or Sunday at 9:30am. You can stay for as long or as short as you can and we will greatly appreciate your help.
From Our APRE - Socktober
The ‘sock it to something’ concept is an Australian expression that means to fight, punch or strike out at. Each year Catholic Mission’s Socktober campaign aims to ‘sock it’ to social issues such as poverty, child labour, child trafficking and homelessness.
During this last term, especially during October, we want to help Catholic Mission fight, punch or strike out at social issues, and provide some practical support to help as well with the money we raise.
The philosophy behind the Socktober campaign is as follows:
• Socks work best in pairs—Catholic Mission works best when they partner with our school.
• Socks are all different—Catholic Mission recognises that every person is unique and special.
• Socks keep us warm, protect us, help us to enjoy sport and have fun—Catholic Mission, with our support, protects, houses, feeds and educates kids globally.
• Socks are part of the everyday clothes we wear — it’s the normal everyday contributions that allow us to make an extraordinary difference.
Have a wonderful week.

In Our Prayers
Let us pray...
• We pray for those children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time: May they come to know the peace that is found in God’s mercy and love.
• We pray for peace in our world: In particular, we pray that leaders will lead with wisdom and love in a world facing conflict and distrust.
• We pray for all in our world and in our community who suffer in any way because of illness, disaster, war or injustice: May they always know they are not alone.
From the APC - The benefits of swimming
Our Swimming Lessons started yesterday. We really appreciate your assistance in helping us to get our groups ready for swimming lessons. Learning to swim is not only an important part of your child’s development it is also an important part of our school’s curriculum.
The Bluefit program has lessons that encourage water confidence and builds the foundation for swimming skills. Students will be introduced to skills including, submerging, floating, and developing a strong kicking action & independent swimming.
Please note there are a few changes to the Swimming Lesson timetable. Please find below the new times.
Please remind students to pack into their bags on Sunday evening or Monday morning:
- Hat
- Goggles
- Towel
- Save slip on shoes
- Swim shirt
It really helps if all items are named. If you are able to walk with your child to and from the pool, please let your classroom teacher know the days you can help.
Have a good week everyone.
