2025 Week 9 Newsletter - Term 2
From the Principal - Who loves a Mystery?

Dear families
It is hard to believe we are already nearing the halfway mark for this year. I am loving hearing all of the success stories that have taken place so far. Growth and success looks different for each of our children and I encourage you to help your child find all the different ways they have personally achieved results this year.
I thank you for all you have done to be engaged in your child’s learning through your interest and encouragement. We love working with you and are always here to help you and answer any questions you may have along the way.
“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.
― Albert Einstein
I really believe that mystery is an important force in a happy life.
We live in a world that is not at peace with mystery. We demand answers and we want them now. And in this instant world, we are losing the gift of reflection that is often at the heart of revealing truth.
When children are given the opportunity to be interested or intrigued by something, they get the chance to exercise an important intellectual intensity. The process of thinking, questioning, and wondering enhances their creative thinking and problem-solving skills and deepens their learning.
Mystery is at the heart of faith and is best served with lots of time for reflection.
Last Sunday saw that happening with the mystery of God as a Trinity – three beings in one – being reflected upon in Catholic Churches across the world.
Father Peter encouraged us to take some time to reflect on questions such as:
- What is your image of God?
- Has it changed over the years?
- Where are you on your journey towards knowing who God is for you.
- Who do you talk to in your prayers
It was a great reminder that we have an awesome God who is bigger than we can ever conceive but who loves us taking time to get to know God better.
I encourage you these holidays to spend some time together contemplating the many mysteries our beautiful world has for us. Your children are the experts and I bet they have some great questions to explore together.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
God bless you.

From Our APRE

The Catholic Church celebrated The Solemnity of The Most Holy Trinity on Sunday. While this is a feast that glorifies the central mystery of our faith, a mystery that is based on the way the three divine persons relate to each other, the readings of the day all address ways that God relates to us.
I offer a reflection from Lisa-Marie Calderone-Stewart around the Holy Trinity.
Saint Patrick is famous for making the shamrock a handy tool to illustrate the Blessed Trinity: one plant, three leaves that are all connected and united – symbolising the one God, three persons that are all connected and united.
Sometimes close relationships are also compared to the Trinity: the person you love, the person who loves you, and God. If God is a part of your relationship, it’s hard to think of the two of you without the power, joy and courage that God brings.
A family, a team or a close group of friends can also form a community of love that is similar to the Trinity – several persons that are connected and united in a very special way.
The Holy Spirit brings the truth of God. Sometimes in our life we are running away from a truth, or trying to ignore or avoid it. What basic truth in your life do you think God wants you to be more aware of?
Sometimes in our life, when we have done something wrong or when we are about to do something wrong, the Spirit of God speaks to us through our conscience. Have you ever thought about doing something, until that voice inside you called you to do something else?
The main message of every Gospel is to know the way of the Spirit and to follow the way of the Spirit. How easy is it to live your life that way?
God’s blessings,

Social Justice Group
Each week a group of dedicated students meet during their morning tea time to talk all things ‘social justice’.
Our Social Justice Group work on connections around school and within our community. So far this year they have learnt about ways to take care of our common home, created welcome packs for new students to our school, undertaken cleaning in the Church, prayed together and taken time listen to each other.
This week the group went off site and visited the local Seafarers to find out what they do within our community and to join them for Mass.
Thank you Mrs Columbus, who leads this group each week and is committed to making a difference.

In our Prayers
- We pray in thanksgiving for all who contribute to the work of Catholic Schools: May we continue to respond in faith, hope and love as we work together for the education of our children’s hearts and minds.
- We pray for all those children who made their First Holy Communion last week: May they cherish the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist and seek always to deepen their relationship with Him.
- We pray for all who live with war and suffering, that leaders who impact society will be moved by the Holy Spirit to bring about justice and peace.
- We pray that, through the Holy Trinity, those who have died will find their home with the Lord.
Crazy Hair Day this Friday 20th June
Our Crazy Hair Day is a great way to raise money for those in need while also having some fun. Funds raised will support the St Vincent de Paul Assist a Student Program which assists students who do not have access to an education. $70 is all it takes to help one student have an education for one year - I wonder how many students we can help?
Students can wear sun safe free dress clothes and closed in running shoes and are invited to wear their crazy hair style and bring a Gold Coin Donation to donate to our appeal.
More information about the Assist a Student Appeal can be found here: https://vinniesyouthqld.org.au/schools/school-initiatives-programs/assist-a-student

From the APC

As we draw closer to the end of the term the students begin to show signs of needing a holiday. Some of the ways we notice this is a slight increase in lunchtime interactions between students needing staff intervention. It is this time of the term that staff are having to step in and settle some very competitive games where some students are forgetting about fun and focusing on winning. To change this approach to our lunch times, I am asking you all to talk to your children about the GOOD SPORTS CODE.
Please spend time with your children talking through the code and discuss ways they can work towards lunch times being about friends and fun!!
THE GOOD SPORTS CODE
I am a good sport and respect my classmates.
I give my 100% best and I will never give up.
Win or lose…. I have fun and play hard.
I congratulate my opponent when they win.
I love to win, but I do not brag.
After all…. It is just a game.
Have a great week.

Parent Orbit App

The App, Parent Orbit, which is connected to Parent Lounge, will improve our communication with each other as it offers a quick and easy way to receive notifications, add Student Absences, view and pay School Fees, accept or decline excursions via the Events and Activities, check the school calendar, update details and permissions and much more.
Some of you may already be using the Parent Orbit App for Chanel College and you will simply add Star of the Sea as another school you can access.
The App uses your Parent Lounge log in to access and will be a great way to access Parent Lounge features as you will not have to log in every time.
To download the App to your mobile device you can click on the link https://parentorbit.page.link/sosg or visit your APP store.
Most of our Term Dates for the rest of the year are already installed on the App so it really is a good resource for you.
