Weekly Focus
Each week we provide you with a short video supplying our key messages for the week.
From the Principal
Dear Families
One of our school goals this year is to look for ways to increase student voice and help students take greater responsibility for their learning across all areas of their education. Parent engagement is an important part of helping us in this goal. You are often best placed as you show interest in your child’s education. You can help them articulate their needs and partner with us in creating a safe and supportive place for them to learn.
You should have received an email providing you with a link to complete a Satisfaction Survey for Star of the Sea. This is an important way that you can provide your voice towards future planning for our school. It is not long or difficult to complete and we would really appreciate having as many parents as possible take part. The closing date is Friday 27 May.
“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.” - Jane D Hull
I share with you more of Stiffelman’s key things we should all make sure our children see us doing as begun a couple of weeks ago:
6. Let them see you making choices on how to spend your money.
Instead of just saying, “It’s too expensive”, start involving your children in conversations about how much things cost and how to save to cover financial costs.
7. Let them see you learning.
Children who see you reading and learning and applying yourself to new or difficult things have the role modelling they need to build lifelong habits and learning behaviours.
8. Let them see you being kind to yourself.
Research shows that relying on the approval of others and external sources can lead to mental health issues. Instead, basing our self esteem on internal sources such as our own values, positive self talk etc. can lead to better grades and a lower incidence of harmful behaviours.
So modelling positive self-talk and kindness/ forgiveness for yourself can teach your children important lessons about who they should measure themselves against.
9. Let them see you being inwardly reflective.
Showing them the importance of being spiritual or simply taking time for reflection and introspection can help balance a focus on needing to constantly achieve and get things. It helps children experience the deeper part of what it means to be human.
10. Let them see you being creative.
Never live an uninspired life. Model for your children the energy that can come from viewing the world through a creative lens that looks for beauty and new ways of doing things.
God bless you and Live Jesus in Your Hearts Forever!

From Our APRE
In Sunday’s Gospel reading, we heard the new commandment that Jesus gave us at the Last Supper.
“This is how everyone will know you are my disciples,” he said, “if you have love for one another.” And not just any kind of love, but Christ-like love: “I give you a new commandment… As I have loved you, that is how you also should love one another.”
Father Andrew delivered a thought-provoking Homily on Sunday at Mass. His challenge was – “Being a Christian is much more than being a member of a club; it means being like another Jesus in the world. Each one of us is called to model ourselves on the pattern of Jesus’ life by trying to discover God’s will, and then doing it.”
He went on to talk about some Saints who have shown this love in the world. Saint Teresa of Calcutta – better known as Mother Teresa is well known as a gentle woman who was powerfully strong and had such trust in her God. Mother Teresa cared for ALL people in the same way, no matter how dirty, sick or poor they were she saw the face of God in each of them and cared for them with such tenderness, dignity and love.
I know it can be a struggle at times to treat people the way Mother Teresa would have – I pray that we continue to work in a spirit of love as Jesus commanded us to do.
God bless.

- We pray for all who live with war and suffering: May the leaders of our world govern with wisdom and concern for all.
