St Joseph's Cathedral Appeal
From the Acting Principal
I spent the weekend surrounded by family and celebrating my Dad’s 80th birthday. My Mum is one of nine children and my Dad is one of five so we have plenty of family to celebrate with.
Dad was lucky enough to have all of his siblings in one place on the weekend to show their love for each other. As Dad said in his speech on the night – ‘it is marvellous’!
Growing up I was blessed with the best – great role models surrounded me and guided me along the way.
As educators we believe that a child’s first teacher is his/her parents. Once children attend school we begin a partnership with parents and value the support we are given.
Pope Francis has some wise words about many topics – his words about love within our families and homes really struck me after the weekend I have just had. “Love is shown by little things, by attention to small daily signs which make us feel at home. Faith grows when it is lived and shaped by love. That is why our families, our homes are true domestic churches. They are the right place for faith to become life, and life to grow in faith.” - Pope Francis
With Jesus as our inspiration and model for all that we do at Star of the Sea we seek to provide an education that caters for the needs of the whole child. In doing so we aim to nurture their academic, physical, social emotional and spiritual development.
I pray that this week we all take the time to pay attention to the all daily signs that help us feel at home and grow in faith.
Reach out to those around you this week,

Parents & Friends Annual General Meeting
Our Parents and Friends Committee is open to ALL parents in our school. Its primary purpose is to provide support and empowerment for parents in their vital parenting role. They do this in many ways – Organising school events, inviting guest speakers and, most importantly, providing parents with the opportunity to have a voice. They also assist in providing resources that enhance the learning environment for our students. Once again, our P&F have had a huge year working in all these ways for the betterment of our school and the benefit of our children.
Our Annual General Meeting takes place in Week 7 on Tuesday 12 November, starting at 6pm. We would love to have you join us for the final meeting of the year.
Christmas Hamper
Each year our school supports the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. Please see attached flyer for details. This year we will hold a free dress day as part of the campaign and students are asked to donate something toward this appeal if they choose to come to school in free dress on the day.
FREE DRESS DAY – THURSDAY 21 NOVEMBER
Students are invited to wear sun safe free dress to school on this day and donate an item of food for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
In Our Prayers
Let us pray...
- We pray for those children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time: May they come to know the peace that is found in God’s mercy and love.
- We pray for all in our world and in our community who suffer in any way because of illness, disaster, war or injustice: May they always know they are not alone.
- We pray for those members of our school community who are battling sickness and suffering in their life: May they be consoled and strengthened in their time of need.
From the APC
Our teachers have delivered the Daniel Morcombe Foundation Personal Child Safety Curriculum to your children and last Friday was the annual Day for Daniel. Day for Daniel reminds all of us the importance of educating children and young people about how to prevent abuse and promote lifelong health and wellbeing. Parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety. If you would like more information about this here is a link to try.
Have a great week everyone.

2025 Student Information Form
As we prepare for our 2025 Class arrangements we invite you to notify us of any important information that should be considered for our class composition by completing a 2025 Student Information Form.
These forms are available from the school office and are designed for parents to formally communicate any important information in relation to their own child, for class placements in 2025 in regards to social, emotional, physical or learning concerns.
Please be aware that these forms are not to request a specific class, nor teacher, but rather to inform the Principal formally of any relevant concerns that pertain directly to your child.
All information included in the 2025 Student Information Form will be treated confidentially. As always, requests will be considered by the Principal but, as you are aware, many factors are well-considered when forming classes, and teachers’ professional judgement is vital in this process also.
Please also know that classroom teachers are not the only professionals involved in finalising classes for the following year. Teachers also meet with Learning Support staff and the Leadership team to finalise these lists.
Please do not put requests to teachers directly. Only those submissions made to the Principal will be formally considered.
2025 Student Information Forms must be returned to school in an envelope addressed to the Acting Principal no later than Friday 1st November.
Departing Families
At this stage of the year, work and personal circumstances sometimes mean that we have families moving from Star of the Sea. If you have not already done so, please send us an email or a note to let us know. This allows us to make accurate preparations for 2025. It also allows other families on our waiting lists for certain year levels to be considered for a place with us next year.
We hope you can join us for our End of Year Mass so that we can pray a special blessing for you and your family.

Have you downloaded our new App yet?
We already have way over half our parent community who've downloaded our new mobile App.
The App, Parent Orbit, which is connected to Parent Lounge, will improve our communication with each other as it offers a quick and easy way to receive notifications, add Student Absences, view and pay School Fees, accept or decline excursions via the Events and Activities, check the school calendar, update details and permissions and much more.
Some of you may already be using the Parent Orbit App for Chanel College and you will simply add Star of the Sea as another school you can access.
The App uses your Parent Lounge log in to access and will be a great way to access Parent Lounge features as you will not have to log in every time.
To download the App to your mobile device you can click on the link https://parentorbit.page.link/sosg or visit your APP store.
Most of our Term Dates for the rest of the year are already installed on the App so it really is a good resource for you.
