WEEKLY FOCUS - 2024 Bullying No Way: National Week of Action
From the Principal - The gift of connection
Dear families
We gathered together in our Pastoral Care Groups again last Friday to celebrate the National Week of Action against bullying. I spoke last week about these groups which consist of a mixture of students from Prep to Year 6. I love gathering with them and there is always a wonderful energy that comes from connecting with each other and exploring important topics together.
“The only way we’re going to make it is in the company of others. We need each other. In all ways.”
— Mia Birdsong
The theme for this year’s No Bullying Week was 'Everyone belongs'.
"It reminds us that when we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.
Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued."
Building strong, supportive connections is a high priority at Star of the Sea. We know how important these connections are in helping our children feel accepted and heard.
Connections with others helps build a buffer in the difficult times that life inevitably throws at us. Personally, whenever struggles have presented themselves, I have found my some of my greatest strength in the people I am blessed to be connected to. I pray our children get to have the same.
Another important connection for me when undergoing a personal struggle is my relationship with God. It gives me great hope, strength and peace. I love this prayer by St Teresa of Avila. It always reminds me of the never ending love and care God has for me, if I only reach out in trust:
Let nothing disturb you;
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing.
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Nothing is wanting to him who possesses God.
God alone suffices.
Good luck to our Choir who perform at the Eisteddfod this week. They have been working so hard to prepare with Mrs Sedgwick and Miss Erin and we know they will perform strongly.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
God bless you.

From Our APRE
Last week we took part in the National Week of action against Bullying. Year Four presented an awesome assembly on Friday morning and helped spread the message that the week is all about.
The challenge put out to students was to put the important messages into action.
This year's theme was: Everyone Belongs. When we feel like we belong - bullying struggles to find a place.
It's about embracing - BEING who we are and respecting everyone's differences. We are all different to each other with the way we look, the way we might speak, even our likes and dislikes.
If we can remember Jesus’ GOLDEN RULE…….. LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU! We will treat each other the way we would like to be treated.
BELONGING means we all have a role in preventing bullying.
This week we celebrate Book Week and I look forward to Friday’s Book Character Parade.
Dive into a good book this week and treat everyone with kindness.

2024 Catholic Education Week Kindness Project
From the APC
We look forward to Friday’s Book Week Assembly where students will arrive dressed as their favourite character. I understand the impact book week dress up can have on families. Some families live for it, they plan for it and use their creative flair to create very impressive costumes. Some parents don’t enjoy it.
Some students love dressing up and some students do not. Students are not alone, some staff love getting dressed up and presenting our book presentation to the school community. Some staff do it, but really have to push through their anxiety to be involved.
For those students who do not enjoy dressing up, I have encouraged them to bring in their favourite book to show everyone. That way, they still feel a part of the celebration of book week.
In our Library we have the books displayed that were either nominated or won awards in the 2024 Children’s Book Council competition.
Have a great week everyone.

In Our Prayers
Let us pray...
• We pray that we will work together to build places of belonging: May we create a community for all to share their gifts and to know that each of us is loved.
• We pray for all those children who are preparing for their First Holy Communion: May they seek to regularly deepen their connection with God in this precious way.
• We pray for all those who have died: May God grant them the peace and joy and hope of the resurrection.
• We pray for those members of our school community who are battling sickness and suffering in their life: May they find healing and comfort.
• We pray for all who live with war and suffering, that we will all be moved by the Holy Spirit to look for opportunities to bring justice, compassion and peace.
Church Centenary Celebrations
Spirit of Star of the Sea Award - Nominations called for now.
The Spirit of Star of the Sea Award was first presented in 2014 to a past student, Mitchell Luders, who inspired our school community and taught us all important lessons about the way we should live. In doing so he exemplified the motto of letting your light shine in many simple ways throughout his short life.
This award is presented as part of our School Feast Day celebrations in years when a member of the school community has demonstrated a significant contribution to building up the spirit of Star of the Sea. They will have demonstrated endurance and compassion in their efforts and worked as a unifying force within the school, encouraging and inspiring others and truly letting their light shine.
The recipient can be a parent, staff member, student or member of the wider community and your recommendations for possible recipients is now invited. We encourage you to click on the link below to share with us your recommendation for this year's Spirit of Star of the Sea Award recipient.

Have you downloaded our new App yet?
We already have way over half our parent community who've downloaded our new mobile App.
The App, Parent Orbit, which is connected to Parent Lounge, will improve our communication with each other as it offers a quick and easy way to receive notifications, add Student Absences, view and pay School Fees, accept or decline excursions via the Events and Activities, check the school calendar, update details and permissions and much more.
Some of you may already be using the Parent Orbit App for Chanel College and you will simply add Star of the Sea as another school you can access.
The App uses your Parent Lounge log in to access and will be a great way to access Parent Lounge features as you will not have to log in every time.
To download the App to your mobile device you can click on the link https://parentorbit.page.link/sosg or visit your APP store.
Most of our Term Dates for the rest of the year are already installed on the App so it really is a good resource for you.
